Shabbat Ki Teitzei
JNA & Bullying
“Getting bullied is a natural part of growing up; it’s character building”; ”Always making fun of someone’s hair is just banter”
”It’s their fault for not standing up for themselves” and more…
This week’s JNA was all about bullying. Are we bullies? Have we been bullied? How does it feel? What’s right/wrong? What is a bystander? Why do we all become bystanders and how can we respond to a situation we are witnessing?
As parents, it breaks our heart to think that our kids will most likely experience some type of bullying at some stage. We feel it is SO important to speak about subjects like these and what each one of us can do to stop the bullying. It was a great session with a great group and a Hebrew birthday for Max, celebrated with hot chocolate fudge and cream.
Looking forward to the next one!
Kadimah Celebrates its 50th anniversary
Wow! What a marathon… We had a blast being part of the group of helpers for Kadimah’s 50th anniversary. There were many stages to this wonderful celebration and we felt so lucky to be able to help across most of them. On Thursday we baked cupcakes (together with the awesome KPFA) and throughout the past few weeks we’ve been working with the adorable Year 3 students on their Siddur ceremony. On Friday we had the “Nachat” of watching them do such a beautiful job and, on Shabbat, we gathered together with many others to celebrate Kadimah with a Shabbat Kiddush. Sunday was a full on work day ensuring everyone received a phone call so they had the opportunity to take part in the amazing 24 hour fundraiser. It was also the celebration of Noam’s Hebrew Birthday so we had to break for some Haagen Dazs ice cream (no Ben & Jerrys for us anymore).
SUCCESS! GOAL & BONUS GOAL! What could be better?! Thank you to all the wonderful people who enabled Kadimah to plan themselves a brighter future and MAZAL TOV to all!
Shalom Court Warmth and Fun
Small break from the fundraiser to visit the wonderful Shalom court residents and have the Bar & Bat Mitzvah class share some fun with them. Our morning started with Yair’s ‘magic tricks’, and we then enjoyed some piano playing by Ethan followed by a handmade bingo game with questions about New Zealand, Israel and Judaism.
To top it off, one of our talented students, Ariel, made each resident a mini wax shaped candle and handed them out. The residents felt so special and all had smiles on their faces. As usual, it was heart warming to see the group fulfill one of the most important Mitzvot we have. It was a great boost for such important times of giving back and spreading love and kindness.
COMING UP!!
Wishing you all a Shabbat filled with love, friends and good food.
