Live in the City of Sails!

Auckland was named the third most liveable city for quality of life by Mercer in 2019. With two large harbours, a subtropical climate, proximity to beaches and its many festivals, it is easy to understand why. Within an enviable lifestyle is New Zealand’s largest Jewish community, and home to the Auckland Hebrew Congregation, Greys Avenue Deli, Kadimah School and Kadimah Preschool.

New Zealand has a stable political and social environment and good medical and health services. Its response to the coronavirus pandemic has been the best in the world and is the country that gives business leaders the most confidence for future investment according to a Bloomberg Media survey.

Whilst currently located in the central business district, the Auckland Hebrew Congregation will be moving to the leafy suburb of Remuera by the middle of 2022 which will provide more space for the Jewish preschool and Kadimah and make it more accessible for those who observe the Sabbath to be within walking distance. The new location will also house the deli and have allocated space for the many youth and volunteer organisations that contribute to the vibrant Jewish community here in Auckland.

Immigration

Immigration New Zealand has a very informative and easy to use website. It is best to call and speak to an immigration advisor about your personal circumstances. We are very happy to help with general advice about Auckland and can help when you arrive but are not able to provide legal advice. You can contact us at immigration@ahc.org.nz if you would like someone to provide practical and emotional support. Our current board member holding the immigration portfolio is an immigrant herself as are several other members of our board, the congregation and of course the city itself is a melting pot of many cultures.

Education

New Zealand has a great education system with well resourced public schools offering free tuition. Complementing this is a rich history of private schools with excellent facilities and globally recognised curriculum such as Cambridge and International Baccalaureate.

Kadimah, the only Jewish day school in New Zealand, teaches the critically acclaimed New Zealand Curriculum and includes a special Jewish Character curriculum, classifying it as a state integrated school. Kadimah has minimal fees and offers a private school educational experience at a fraction of the cost.

Regular reporting on the performance and learning outcomes is provided by the Education Review Office for the different kindergartens and primary schools (such as Kadimah School). Check out this handy list of Auckland schools by NZ's Ministry of Education.
