Israel is Under Attack

It is devastating watching our country bleeding….
One of the hardest things being here is that we are so far away, whilst our families and friends are running into shelters to protect themselves from missiles.
Watching the news and seeing all the fires destroying beautiful land is heartbreaking.
We hope and pray Israel will soon be at peace and all citizens will feel protected and safe, and able to go to school, work and live a normal life.

LAST WEEK…

Young Adults’ Friday night dinner

We loved hosting a bunch of young people for a great Friday night dinner. A total of 12 young adults combined with lots of food and wine was a winning combination.
No photo due to Shabbat but the memories created and the atmosphere beat any photo we could have taken. Here’s to many more and thanks for coming!

Bar & Bat Mitzvah class

This past Sunday was a fun, rainy BM class. The first part was about death and mourning in Judaism. We discussed the different parts of mourning and how each person mourns differently according to their connection to the person who passed away.
We then learnt about “Shiva”, “Shloshim” and many more important steps along the way.
We walked to the Jewish cemetery on K Road and let the students walk around, learn about the people buried there and view the different shapes and designs on the graves. We then explained about the Jewish way to bury someone when they pass away.
Back at the AHC, we learned about and toured the Mikveh. It was great to see the students so fascinated and full of questions.
A morning filled with plenty of important information!

Three Weddings!

This past week’s weddings were so much fun! We enjoyed participating and helping wherever we could and we wish all the newlyweds (sort of :)) a happy, joyful and never ending journey in our Jewish world.

Yom Yerushalayim at Kadimah and Hebrew Club

Together with Kadimah students we began the day learning about Jerusalem’s demographics, Israel as a country and how Yom Yerushalayim is celebrated in Israel. We then had a blast at Hebrew Club with more in depth learning and creating the walls, towers and symbols of Jerusalem. We discussed how different religions feel connected to Jerusalem and what makes Jerusalem so special.

JNA

Machane Yehuda Shuk!

In honour of Yom Yerushalayim we made delicious recipes from Shuk Machne Yehuda and enjoyed a full on Israeli homemade meal with fabulous Falafel, Pitot, Tahini, Hummus, Israeli Salad and Rugalach. The group made it all and did an amazing job !
We watched a video about Yom Yerushalayim and spoke about the current situation in Israel and what we can do from afar to help. We had a BLAST!
Can’t wait for the next JNA. If you know someone who may want to join, we have a WhatsApp group and are happy to send out the link to join. Contact us for the link :)
