Shabbat Terumah

-Thank YOU-

“Alone, we can do so little ; Together, we can do so much” - Helen Keller

The community lunch last Shabbat was so much fun! Nearly 70 people showed up and enjoyed a relaxed, lovely lunch together after the beautiful celebrations of Talia and Danny’s special Bar & Bat Mitzvah. Such a special Shabbat with special people. We can do all the background work but if you don’t show, it’s not worth it.
As Helen Keller said, TOGETHER we can do so much. Thank you to all you wonderful people who came and lots of love to those of you we missed. Keep an eye out for the next one.. it’s coming up very soon!

International Holocaust Remembrance Day

This year we had the privilege of participating in team planning for organising International Holocaust Remembrance Day. It was an outstanding event held at the WWII hall in the War Memorial Museum at the Domain. Many outstanding speakers and a wonderful Gael Karen leading the group. We feel very lucky to have been two out of the six candles and having the “Zchut” to light in memory of our families who were killed during the Holocaust.

In Loving Memory of Jannis Cohen z”l.

As some of you know, we are hoping to have community lunches every few weeks so we can all come in together and enjoy being a community. This past Shabbat was loads of FUN.

It was amazing seeing so many people (in January!) come to shul and enjoy a homemade meal. Shonna and Douglas Ross have been wonderful friends and supporters during their time in New Zealand. They have quietly and modestly done so much for the community and Jewish life here and we would like to thank them publicly for all their love and support

Just a few hours before her flight, Shonna decided to buy and drop off two crock pots of seven litres each (!!) to help us make delicious cholent, soups and more for the community lunches, in memory of her wonderful mother, Jannis. We loved Jannis and were fortunate to enjoy some great times with her in the past few years and hope she is smiling from above thinking of the community coming in and enjoying meals made by these crockpots. Wishing Shonna a safe return and hoping you all will join the next community meal!
