Parashat Ki Teitze
Rabbi’s Drosh
Dear friends,
Being thrown back in a level 4 lockdown took us back to our very first COVID19 lockdown, when we turned to the advice of the great Natan Sharanski for tips on how to deal with lockdown (see the video below).
The advice is well-worth revisiting as we think about how to now just deal with lockdown, but really make the most of this time.
As often repeated throughout the Torah, this week's parasha contains a reference to our slavery in Egypt, “You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt”.
The message here is clear. Value your freedom! Don't take it for granted!
Having such freedom in New Zealand, when the rest of the world has been dealing with so much fallout from COVID19, it can be easy to get on with life and forget how precious that freedom is.
The latest lockdown is another reminder that Hashem is running the world, not us! It is also a reminder never to take our freedom for granted.
Stay safe and well and we hope to see you online.
Shabbat shalom,
Rabbi Friedler
